We are being warned that play is under siege. Currently our colleagues
in the USA are being swamped with ‘the cognitive child’ as if
only the child’s brain goes to long day care or preschool each day
instead of the whole child. Sara Wilford takes on the fight wholeheartedly
and supports us as we defend the child’s right to play. Her information
is deep and from years of experience, is warm and generous from her love
of young children. She uses current theories based on solid research, and
blends Howard Gardner’s theory along with the ideas from Reggio Emilia
as well as Lilian Katz and the emergent curriculum. Those who know me would
know this really pushes my buttons! It’s excellent. Yes, the photographs
are in black and white so it isn’t as visually appealing as I would
hope, but it’s a solid, informative and encouraging book. Click
