This teacher resource book directly supports the songs on Happy to be Me CD. It has been developed in consultation with Aboriginal educators and education groups in New South Wales to ensure that it provides a culturally appropriate perspective for teaching in the early childhood setting and the early years of school.
Inside this book, you will find lyrics of all the songs on the Happy to be Me CD, easy to follow illustrated actions for ten songs and song extension ideas. To assist busy teachers, the extension activities are broken down into suggestions for oral sharing/discussion, hands-on activities, related books and websites. This book promotes the educational value of the oral tradition in Aboriginal cultures and where relevant, links are made to mathematical, literacy and creative concepts that can further extend children in a range of developmental areas.
The songs on the CD will spark interest in topic areas ranging form insects, football, and scary creatures to friends, family and kinship as well as places of belonging, all supporting the implementation of an Aboriginal perspective in the classroom.
